August Product Walkthrough
Welcome to August, your all in one AI workspace for legal teams. This walkthrough introduces the core components of August and how to use the platform effectively, from uploading documents and organizing Matters to running workflows, drafting content, and collaborating securely across your team.
Platform Overview
August supports law firms and in house legal teams by consolidating drafting, review, analysis, email workflows, document storage, and collaboration into a single platform. Instead of switching between many tools, August centralizes your work in one secure environment.
Core pillars of August:
- A centralized Vault for documents and Matter files
- AI powered Assistant and Workflows for drafting, extraction, summaries, and analysis
- Tabular Review for structured review across large document sets
- Integrations with Word, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, and firm DMS
- Templates, Playbooks, and configurable workspace tools that support consistent review standards
August helps reduce time spent on repetitive work so lawyers can focus on substantive legal analysis.
Core Components and How to Use Them
Vault and Matter Repository
- Create a Matter for each client, deal, case, or project
- Upload documents such as contracts, pleadings, policies, or emails, or link your firm’s repositories
- Maintain folder structure and access controls consistent with your DMS
- Use global search to locate clauses, documents, or prior work instantly
- Toggle the document viewer to open documents side by side with the Assistant or Workflows
All relevant Matter materials stay organized and secure in one place.
Assistant and Workflows
The August Assistant is a context aware engine that can:
- Draft memos, contracts, letters, or internal communications
- Redline or revise documents
- Extract key data such as obligations, dates, or clause terms
- Generate summaries, chronologies, diligence outputs, or structured reports
Running a Workflow
- Open the Workflows tab
- Select a workflow category
- Choose a pre built or custom workflow
- Provide required inputs such as uploading or selecting documents
- Select Run
- Review structured outputs such as tables, flagged clauses, summary memos, or draft documents
Workflows are ideal for large document sets, letting August handle the processing while you review the results.
Playbooks
Playbooks allow you to apply structured clause review standards to documents.
- Run Playbooks directly in platform or via Word
- Automatically identify Acceptable, Needs Review, or Not Acceptable clauses
- View suggested edits or fallback language
- Use Playbooks for NDAs, commercial agreements, compliance reviews, or internal templates
Playbooks support consistent analysis across matters and teams.
Translations
August provides a dedicated Translation workflow when you need translated documents.
Foreign Language OCR and Assistant Understanding
- August automatically detects and reads foreign language documents, even when uploaded as scanned PDFs
- You can work with foreign language content directly in the Assistant; it can summarize, analyze, extract, and understand any language without translation
- If you need an actual translation, use the Translation workflow for accurate, formatted output in your target language
This ensures your workflow is efficient whether you need analysis or a full translated document.
Tabular Review and Export
After running a workflow:
- Open Tabular Review
- Each row represents a document or clause, and each column represents a field such as dates, obligations, or risks
- Edit extracted data, annotate fields, or filter for high priority items
- Export to CSV or Excel for diligence, reporting, or internal records
Tabular Review allows quick triage and organization of large amounts of information.
